This week has been an exciting week. IronKids announced Team Winter will be one of their two official charities for the 2010 triathlon season. We will be teaming up with Iron Andy, the other charity, to offer kids an opportunity to fundraise for our cause or encourage them to race for a cause near and dear to them. In addition, I have the great honor of being an ambassador for IronKids. I hope to encourage kids to lead an active lifestyle and hope to slow down the escalating crisis of childhood obesity over the next several years. I want to serve as a role model to other kids showing them that anything is possible, even as a kid. I hope to grow the numbers of kids involved in the IronKids series over this next year. This series exposes kids to a great sport that combines the activities they already do as a kid (swim, bike, run). I will be traveling to many of the events not only to bring awareness to my charity but to help out kids and families that may be new to triathlon.
What have I been doing in the off season? Well, for those of you who don't know my second passion, it is downhill skiing. I was fortunate enough to have a great season and made the Mt. Bachelor Championship Team. I will be competing at Mt. Hood next weekend in the Buddy Werner Championship race. I have been told there will be some very tough competition. These are the best skiers in the Pacific Northwest. I am still on a competitive swim team and swim everyday and keep my cycling in check with spin classes. Hope all of you are balancing out your training in these long, dark winter months.
